Hi guys,

I've been playing overwatch for over a year now.

Initially I just played a lot of quick play, before starting up the competitive push.
I think I tried comp before i got a good understanding of the heroes and the game awareness required.
And hence was placed in silver. I've always managed to climb out in past seasons to atleast be a gold player.

However, it feeels soooo hard. I'm not a bad player, I know that. I main roadhog, and I consistently get gold
dmg and my hook accuracy tends to be in the 60s(I've had a 82% game once, just the once). I am also an apt soldier 76,
ana and lucio.

Sometimes on ladder I get an absolute dream team. Ppl who understand importance of team comp, and are aware of their roles.
I usually steamroll with teams like this. Then other times I get flaming toxic ppl on my team instead. Hanzo and widow mains (that arent good)
who will not switch to more meta heroes, as well as constant leavers.

I feel like I'm gambling with my SR in this ELO. Like for every win, I have the potential to lose the next 4.
I'm not saying I have a great game everytime but it's so hard to carry in this ELO...

Anyway rant over...

Hi!

I'm not playing Overwatch but I really know the feeling and read about it from other players just as much in other games. My advice? Just keep pushing. If you feel like you can communicate with the rest of your team to improve the teamplay and react accordingly to what is going on in your game, you should definitely give it a try; if you feel like the rest of your team is completely toxic and the game is lost anyway, try to improve small aspects in your gameplay, get the best experience you can get out of this game and use that in your next one. The most important thing is to not let the game affect you in anyway, if you're getting frustrated or angry, just take a break, play something else or do something relaxing.

Now, I don't think that stuff like "elo hells" really exist. I mean, sure, there's probably a bigger chance to end up in a shitty game with toxic ppl that if you were playing with the highest ranks in the game, but still, it shouldn't be that bad. Regardless of what's going on in your game, you should try to enjoy it as much as possible and keep a positive attitude, it's the best way to go up into the ladder ^_^

Then again, never played OW, don't know if what I just said fit this game, I just felt like sharing from my personal experience...

Good luck man!

How far away are you from gold?

I feel very similarly about diamond rank. Though I think people want to win more.
The problem with Overwatch is that it's a team game and unless you are smurfing it might be very difficult to carry hard enough to win all/most your games.

Not sure if you've tried, but after every ranked loss I generally take a short break, eat some fruit or whatever.
Also in your rank healers might not be the best at keeping you alive so:
A) being a good ana will help lots (keeping teammates topped up)
B) being roadhog helps tons
C) Lucio is now a fragger and healer so when you get good at hitting your targets with him, he's really strong (boop does 25 which is perfect for finishing low hp heroes)

I've tried getting people playing "off-meta" heroes (not that widow is) to push with the team. Generally, this works a lot better than them going off by themselves and dying.
That's not to say that they will cooperate.

There have been games that I've won even though I've had complainers and people being silly.
Recording yourself helps you improve a lot.
I noticed that when my team plays badly, so do I.

Svarogia Thank you man! Yes, I always try my best in all the games I play. Sucks that I'm like the only one with a mic in most of my games... Tbh, no I don't take a break after losing. I know people say don't play on tilt, but there's always that feeling of not ending on a loss ya know. Oh well that is a mental thing I need to work on I guess! Thank you for your advice :)

arya1332 I'm fairly close man, I'm 1824 atm, and reached 1910 when i used to play earlier in the season. Yeah, that I a mental aspect of the game I need to work on. I end up playing even when I'm tilting. Cut my losses, gambling style haha. I agree with your views on Ana and Lucio, and I play healer if noone wants to do it. The reason I prefer playing tanks or dps, is because there is almost ZERO tactical switching by my DPS players when I'm healing... :( Ie Genji playing into a symmetra or mei, and consistently getting pwned rather than switching to pharah for example. And if I do play DPS, there is, like u said, lack of healing. Im finding the most success with the Pig, bc I dont really depend on anyone, and can get some early picks which my teammates SOMETIMES capitalise on... The reason why I am so pissed with my rank is that I did placements for my brothers account and got him ranked mid plat, so I KNOW I should be higher up. But I'm sufferering on my own account... :( But thank you for your advice!! :) I will keep trying, and maybe group up with some people on the forum as well.

heyo I main roadhog as well (well one of my mains lol) then i got lazy and stopped grinding to masters lol

From what I see in ranked, each player contributes to the team. Some people more than others. If you consistently perform well, you'll overall win more games. Sure sometimes you'll have a few peeps that screw around or have awful team mates but it's nothing you can't handle as long as you continue to improve and play well. Lemme know if you wanna do some qp or customs for practice sometime.

nomad21 I can assure you things do not get better in Gold. I main healers and tanks, but I'm a decent flex player, I'll play whatever fits with what my teammates picked. As a healer I can tell you it is really hard to heal ppl when you solo queue.
I've had ppl asking me for healing from inside buildings, when they are nowhere in the my line of sight, or ppl asking for healing (like under 20% HP) right next to me, behind a wall (safe-ish position) and they keep strafing left and right trying to poke around the wall. Sit your damn ass down and stop poking, you are 1 hit away from dieing so stop poking and let me freaking heal you, instead of making me try to predict your strafing/dodges.
My point is, some people understand that this is a team game and try to cooperate. Others think they know it all and get tilted when ppl don't play full meta teams. Others just don't give a damn, in which case they should be doing QP not Comp. At the end of the day, having ppl on their best heroes matters more than comp, at anything below Diamond. Higher than that, and team comps start playing a bigger and bigger role.
It is better to have a Reinhardt main on a Reinhardt (provided they are actually decent at their mains lol) than on a Winston (which they might not play, or know how to play) just because most of your team wants to play dive heroes.

Personally, I've found that solo queue at lower SR is borderline pointless, because you're almost guaranteed to get at least one player who refuses to play properly and cooperate. Best advice I can give (if you aren't a super serious player) is to find a group of people you enjoy playing with, and climb with them :) that way you're almost guaranteed to have all roles filled, as well as have a good time on comms.

GUYS I DID IT!!!!!

I GOT OUTTA SILVER!!!

omg thank you for it advice and also Idolator. Yh I think grinding solo queue was probs my biggest mistake. I tried to carry but when u have a league full of leavers and trolls it's very hard. I ended up teaming with my close friend and we got me to gold in just one short sesh!!! 9 game win streeeaak and counting! Yh I think I'm gonna stick to groups for now on lol, SILVER solo is stressful af. And Idolator I tots agree with ur points on healing....esoecially when u main Ana for heals like me, it's so tilting when ppl die cos I can't heal them cos they're learning salsa during the match....Anyway GOOLLLDD!!!:joyous::surprise::surprise:
