Faze Clan is going public in $1 billion SPAC deal
Faze Clan is on track to become a publicly traded company. The competitive esports group is merging with B. Riley Principal 150 Merger Corp. in a deal that values the combined companies at $1 billion (via Markets Insider). As a part of the deal, Faze Clan estimates it can get up to $291 million to help fund its growth, according to a post on Faze Clan’s website.

Faze Clan is known for its teams that compete in Call of Duty, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, Fortnite, PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, and more. With an audience of about 350 million people on social media, the group opened up Faze Studios last year with one of the producers behind the Netflix original 13 Reasons Why. To further bolster its reputation, celebrities like NBA star Ben Simmons, hip hop artist Offset, and popular Twitch streamer NickMercs have all joined the group.

Faze Clan will hit the NASDAQ with the ticker symbol FAZE in 2022, but some are skeptical of its arrival on the stock market. Jacob Wolf, a reporter for Dot Esports, criticized the $1 billion valuation of Faze Clan, noting that Swift Media Entertainment, the parent company of Team Solo Mid, is worth less than half as much.

God of War coming to Windows PC in January
God of War, Sony Santa Monica Studios’ 2018 PlayStation exclusive, is coming to Windows PC on Jan. 14, 2022. Sony announced the end of God of War’s PlayStation exclusivity on Wednesday via a PC announce trailer on YouTube.

The game will be available for $49.99 on Steam and the Epic Games Store. God of War’s Steam page is already active, for players that want to pre-order the game ahead of the January release. PC features listed on Steam include “high fidelity graphics,” including 4K resolution, DLSS and reflex support for higher frame rates and sharper graphics, and ultra-widescreen support.

God of War was originally released in 2018 to critical success; Polygon named it our Game of the Year for its “staggering technical achievement” and fantastic story. Sony is currently gearing up for a PlayStation 5 sequel for 2018’s God of War. God of War Ragnarok was originally slated for a 2021 release date, but was pushed to 2022 in June. An exact release date has not been announced. In September, Kratos’ voice actor, Christopher Judge, said Ragnarok was delayed due to his health.

God of War’s move away from PlayStation exclusivity continues a trend we’ve seen over the past few years. More and more companies are leaning away from platform exclusivity as the PC becomes home to, well, everything. 2017 hit Horizon Zero Dawn got a PC port last year, too, making God of War only the most recent PlayStation first-party title to make its way to the new platform.

'Overwatch' hero McCree will be renamed Cole Cassidy
Overwatch hero Jesse McCree has a new name, and, no, it’s not Deadeye Dave. As promised, Blizzard has renamed the gunslinger in the aftermath of his real-life namesake leaving the studio back in August. As of October 26th, McCree will be known as Cole Cassidy.

“To make the new Overwatch better — to make things right — he had to be honest with his team and himself.” Blizzard said in a tweet. “The cowboy he was rode into the sunset, and Cole Cassidy faced the world at dawn.”

The real Jesse McCree left the studio after the California Department of Fair Employment and Housing sued Activision Blizzard for fostering a “frat boy” workplace. While not directly named in the complaint, McCree reportedly took part in the infamous "Cosby Suite" where Blizzard employees, including former World of Warcraft creative director Alex Afrasiabi, allegedly harassed women. When it first announced the name change, Blizzard said it wanted to find one that better represented Overwatch’s ideals. It also promised it would no longer name in-game characters after employees.

Alongside the name change, Blizzard is testing two potential changes to Cassidy’s kit. It may tweak his Deadeye ultimate to make it more deadly and allow players to use his Combat Roll in midair. The latter change should help with avoiding vertical knockback abilities from heroes like Doomfist and Wrecking Ball. You can try out the tweaks by launching Overwatch’s Experimental mode.

Payday 3 is set in New York, features the original gang
The sequel is set in New York City, a virtual world Starbreeze described as a "living, enormous representation of the city".

"One game changer: the media is now covering the gang, their exploits... and who knows what might come from that..." Starbreeze added.

Payday 3 is set several years after the events of Payday 2, with the gang retired from their life of crime.

"In the meantime," Starbreeze said, "the world of Payday has transitioned into the digital age, with software giants, crypto currencies, mass surveillance and the Dark Web all playing a role in the gang's new gadgets, challenges and opportunities."

We also have confirmation that Payday's original four characters - Dallas, Hoxton, Chains and Wolf - return to a life of crime for Payday 3. The gang is forced back into a life of heisting, Wonnevi said.

There's still no gameplay, but we have a snapshot of the character models and a couple of pieces of environment art

In March, Starbreeze signed a €50m publishing deal with Koch Media for Payday 3, which is due out on PC, Xbox and PlayStation at some point in 2023 - 10 years after Payday 2 came out. The deal means Payday 3 is "fully financed", Starbreeze said, with the investment paying for development, marketing as well as more than 18 months of post-launch "games as a service" content. Starbreeze remains the owner of the Payday IP.

The funding marked a reversal in fortunes for Starbreeze, which almost went out of business in 2019 following the disastrous launch of Overkill's The Walking Dead on Steam.

The game flopped, causing severe financial issues and the acrimonious exit of boss Bo Andersson. For more, check out our in-depth feature, The fall of Starbreeze.

But after a reorganisation, layoffs, the selling off of various publishing rights and a focus on co-op focused shooter Payday 2, Starbreeze started to sort itself out.

Now, things are hotting up in the world of Payday. As Starbreeze works on Payday 3, it continues to update Payday 2, which remains one of Steam's top games by concurrent players. And it's about to launch a closed beta test of mobile game Payday Crime War.

Stardew Valley Creator Teases New Game After Haunted Chocolatier Announcement
Stardew Valley creator Eric Barone revealed his latest game, Haunted Chocolatier, just a few days back. In a general sense, the game very much resembles that of Stardew Valley and sees players controlling a chocolatier that lives in a "haunted castle." And while this might sound exciting enough on its own, Barone also teased this week that Haunted Chocolatier is not the only new project that he has in the works at this moment.

As mentioned by Barone on the official Haunted Chocolatier website, it was said that another game from the famed creator is currently in the pipeline as well. While Barone didn't offer up any specific details about this second project, he suggested that it's likely much further out than that of Haunted Chocolatier. "It's actually not the first or only 'new project' I've been working on, but it's the one that I believe I will finish first," Barone said of Chocolatier.

Speaking to how far along Haunted Chocolatier might be, Barone stressed that the game is still in its early stages. "I started working on this game a little over 1 year ago, in 2020. Since then, I've been working on it mostly in evenings and on the weekends, because I'm still actively working on Stardew Valley related things," Barone said. Because the game is still so early on in development, whatever this secondary project might be is surely even further away from being revealed. As such, we likely shouldn't expect to see it announced any time in the near future, assuming it even sees the light of day at all.

When it comes to Haunted Chocholatier specifically, Barone also didn't commit to a release window of any sort just yet. Additionally, he has also only said that PC will be the sole platform that the game comes to for certain. However, a release on other platforms should be likely, although Barone isn't committing to specifics just yet.
