SunKenRock: Seeing King Sam as a shortened version of xXKingSamIIIXx , what was your choosing behind the name? Have you had a lot of usernames or was this something you used early on?
KingSam: It used to be KingSamIII1729, but in GTA I wanted to have a tryhard name so I chose xXKingSamIIIXx but then greatly regretted it afterwards, and then chose KingSam to shorten it.

SunKenRock: How did you meet Focused Fool (being he was the one who referred you), was in game like GTA?
KingSam: I was in one of their lobbies, and Focused tried to kick me out of the lobby, so then I confronted them and asked them, and then they invited me to join.

SunKenRock: Being a newer member, has it been a lot to take in when joining the community or have people made it that much easier?
KingSam:. There's a lot of stuff that happens, and a lot of stuff to learn.

SunKenRock: Seeing you listed GTA V and ARK as games you play, what is your go to weapon in GTA, and which dino you like the most in ARK?
KingSam: In GTA I use the Bullpup Rifle the most, and ARK I used the Argentavis and Thylacoleo.

SunKenRock: Do you play any other games outside of those two?
KingSam: I play Rainbow 6 Siege, Assassin's Creed, Watchdogs, KSP, and I do flight sims as well.

SunKenRock: Is there anything you are looking forward to that has yet to be released?
KingSam: I'm looking forward to get a new graphics card; either the new AMD cards, or the new NVIDIA ones.

SunKenRock: Who was the person who started you off into gaming, and did you start with PC?
KingSam: I started gaming in 4th grade right when the new XBOX One came out.

SunKenRock: Are you able to pick an all time favorite game yet?
KingSam: Assassin's Creed Black Flag, or GTA V.

SunKenRock: Outside of gaming have you ever come across issues or any type of negativity being a young gamer?
KingSam: A lot of people find it easy to pick on us, and don't take us seriously. I also don't have cool stories to share.

SunKenRock: If you had to chose a time to be born in a certain era of gaming, what decade would you go with: 1990s, 2000s, 2010s, or now?
KingSam: Now. As time goes on technology advances, and gaming only gets better and better.

Xbox, Activision Used xCloud Streaming to Develop Games During the Pandemic

Xbox and Activision are using Microsoft's xCloud streaming service to develop games during the COVID-19 pandemic, according to a new report from Bloomberg.

It's no secret that developing games is difficult. It's also not a secret that developing games during a global pandemic is even more difficult, as likely evidenced by the game delays we've seen this year. Microsoft reportedly built an app for creating and testing games over the internet using xCloud, according to Bloomberg, and Xbox and Microsoft have been using it to develop games. It even helped Microsoft ship its new batch of consoles.

"It enabled us to ship our console on time," xCloud principal software engineering manager, Daniel Kennett, told Bloomberg.

Microsoft repurposed xCloud to allow developers to access their high-end computers in their office from the confines of their home. The repurposed xCloud tool can display high resolutions and reproduce audio in surround sound, according to Bloomberg, and nearly 60 studios are using it to work on new games and test how they work. Xbox is, of course, using xCloud to do this, but Activision Blizzard Inc. is as well, the report notes. It's also being used to fix hardware bugs by Xbox.

Microsoft's game streaming service allows employees to connect to each other's computers where they can make changes to art or other things remotely. Those changes can then be shared on Microsoft Teams, which helped restore a sense of normalcy, Kennett said.

"Being stuck at home and not being able to walk around the floor and see where stuff's at is brutal," he said.

The Bloomberg report also includes some information about the new Forza game, or rather, how early prototypes of the new Forza game are being run on old Xbox One systems through xCloud and another tool developed by Microsoft. The report doesn't include anything particularly new about the next Forza game — we already know it's coming — but it's a nice confirmation that development on the game is still happening despite the COVID-19 pandemic.

High School Esports League recruits Army National Guard as partner

The High School Esports League (HSEL) has entered into a partnership with the United States Army National Guard to build 25 ‘esports labs’ in selected schools across North America.

HSEL’s esports labs will be equipped with high-end PCs and accessories from gaming hardware company ASUS and technology corporation Intel.

In addition, HSEL-affiliated schools will also receive a STEM learning curriculum in order to educate students on how to maintain and build the esports labs, whilst also offering career and college advice.

Jason Kirby, President of Generation Esports, the firm behind HSEL, commented on the partnership in a release: “We are thrilled to be working with such well-respected partners to bring esports labs to schools nationwide. We know that setting up esports labs can be cost-prohibitive, so we wanted to step in and give schools an opportunity they might not otherwise have. STEM communities play a key role in the sustained growth of the economy, so it is important that we work to engage students in these areas in a way that builds life-long enthusiasm and excitement.”

“With this project we not only teach students life-long lessons on computer building and maintenance, but also give them the opportunity to get hands-on experience of esport gaming, potentially setting them up for a future career.”

Alongside receiving a fully equipped lab, one of the 25 schools will be selected to receive a full internet infrastructure upgrade by Extreme Networks, the exclusive networking sponsor of the activation. The schools that will participate in the activation will be unveiled by February 15th, 2021.

Esports Insider says: Having partnered with a range of organizations in the past, the Army National Guard is no stranger to the esports industry. Any activation that has the potential to cultivate more interest in the industry is certainly a positive and the development of so many esports labs will undoubtedly strengthen the schools’ esports curriculum.

Phasmophobia Update Lets Dead Players Screw With Their Friends

The recent indie success Phasmophobia received an update a few days ago that included a new feature that allows dead players to cause some chaos in their friends' games. Phasmophobia was released in early access in September, and since it has become one of the most popular games played by YouTubers and Twitch streamers. As the perfect game to play for some spooky scares in the month of Halloween, it rose to be the highest selling game on Steam for two weeks in a row during October, surpassing hits like Fall Guys and pre-orders for Cyberpunk 2077.

Phasmophobia is a game inspired by ghost hunter-type TV shows, in which players take the role of up to four members of a group of ghost hunters. This group is contracted to find and identify ghosts in abandoned buildings. There are twelve different types of ghosts players might encounter, each one behaving differently. The aim of the game is to find as much information on the ghosts as possible, and with an extensive ghost-hunting toolbox, players can communicate with, protect against, and investigate the ghosts that will try to kill anyone who disturbs them too much. An innovative feature that has been included is an in-game voice chat that players can use to talk to each other, but the ghosts can also hear what is being said and this will influence their behavior. Right now there is a beta version of the game out, so players can see some changes and improvements to the game, and give the developers some feedback as the game continues to get updates.

Bethesda’s PS5 title Deathloop to release in May

Bethesda’s newest title, Deathloop, looks slick and colorful and, even better, will release on the PS5 sooner than you think! Let’s just say if you’ve got a birthday in May, then this game will be just the thing to treat yourself with.

Deathloop has been revealed to be released on May 21st. It was speculated through a PlayStation Store pre-order listing that the game would come out on this date, but it’s now been officially confirmed by via a launch date reveal trailer that was published yesterday. Just like the game itself, it looks incredible.

Releasing on the PC, as well as the PS5, Deathloop is developed by Arkane, the folks behind huge hits like the Dishonored series. In the single-player game you’ll play as Colt, someone who has just washed up on the island of Blackreef – a place that’s trapped in a timeloop that resets after each day. Colt has to take out 8 targets to try and stop the loop, but is hunted each and every step by assassin Julianna.

It isn’t just a single-player experience, however. Players can choose to play as Julianna and invade other people’s games in order to track their Colt down and put a stop to his meddling. It sounds like a thrilling mix of Dark Souls and Dishonored to us!

Check out the trailer for yourself to see the Deathloop release date confirmed, and remember, if at first you don’t succeed, die, die again…

Here come the Among Us rip-offs

This was inevitable. The concept of Among Us is simple, its color-coded space people are distinctive, and its crude artwork is easy to elaborate on. It's also massively popular. Of course it's being cloned.

A Chinese version called Werewolf Among Us is one of the country's top iOS downloads. A VRChat world maker created a 3D version of Among Us a few weeks ago. And tucked into Steam's upcoming releases is the game pictured above: Killer Among Us 3D.

I really enjoy the flagrancy of Killer Among Us. Its title is delectably unsubtle: Not only does it directly include the phrase "Among Us," it fills in the original's implied missing word with "Killer," as if there were confusion as to who it is that's among us in the original game.

It's hard not to find that childlike level of parody endearing. In the same way, the Killer Among Us game description reads like someone copied the Wikipedia entry for Among Us and then did their best to swap key words with synonyms, as if trying to cheat on an essay assignment.

"You are on a spaceship and your ship modules are damaged," it reads. "You need to fix all faults. But there is ONE BUT, an alien creature 'Virus' got on the ship, which infuses people and controls their minds."

Killer Among Us 3D isn't the only rip-off on the way, of course. Also coming soon to Steam is the more creatively-named Impostor Inside Us, in which you either play as "Peopel" or "Murder." The death of a peopel (computer detected) is pictured below.

Over in the more collaborative-minded space of itch.io, where they aren't just trying to make a buck, Among Us is being complemented by mods and companion apps and weird little tributes such as Among Us: Shooter Game, which promises "lots of bugs."

One person also made a free "fan game" called Among Us But It's Single Player, in which you play as an imposter killing AI crewmates—if you're seen, you're toast.

Surprisingly, I haven't seen anyone do a version called "Amongst Us" yet, but presumably someone, somewhere has a GameMaker project named that, and we'll see it soon enough.
