After I started to get into Guild wars 2 again I have been able to meet various people during the course of a week. Along with supporting/helping Mantra when it comes to figuring out the section and running the in game guild. Which had a good amount of early success, so I thought it was a good chance to get to know more and share it with the fellow members at Fever. It is a small look, along with a chance to showcase GW2 .

SunKenRock: How were you able find out about Fever?
DarkMantra: Searching for a Hots group on google in 2015.

SunKenRock: What do you like most about Fever?
DarkMantra: The Variety of people and games as well as the generally positive and friendly environment.

SunKenRock: What's the origin of your gaming name? Are you known for another name?
DarkMantra: I was in a very dark and nasty mood the day I made my fever name. Other names.... that I use gaming with fever..... DarkMantra... Blizzard, SnowWitch (World was frozen for that one), and some version of TrinityC seems to keep popping up on discord. In Gw2, well, that's a long list lol

SunKenRock: Who or what got you into gaming? Did you play the early Atari?
DarkMantra: Early Atari was the start, it was fun, only child, kept me out of the way of my folks which was good.

SunKenRock: Do you have an all-time favorite game?
DarkMantra: Final Fantasy or Resident Evil Series... I think... Depends, there were a lot of good ones.

SunKenRock: What games do you activity play these days. More single or multiplayer? Anything you looking forward to?
DarkMantra: More Multiplayer. Got about half a dozen I cycle through including Ark, Factorio, Raft, Jurassic World, Escape the pacific, PacMan Evolution, Golf With your Friends, and others.

SunKenRock: What kind of things do you enjoy outside of gaming.
DarkMantra: Bake, BBQ, Phuk, watch the tv, smoke, sleep, eat...

SunKenRock: What would you say is best/worst about where you live. Any go to places to see?
DarkMantra: Shit side of where I live is the hate of English. Upside nice and senic, nearly free education, awesome and free health care. Go to places would be the old castle town and the chocolate makers.

SunKenRock: If you didn't live there, would you prefer anywhere else?
DarkMantra: East Coast near Halifax. Preferable in an old haunted house, fiber optic internet is a must.

SunKenRock: Is there any goals you seek to achieve in the near future, maybe something you hope to accomplish in a year or two?
DarkMantra: Keep expanding my network and content which will be a retirement buff.

SunKenRock: Thank you for answering the questions. Do you have any Hearty Advice.
DarkMantra: You're welcome. Will get back to you on the advice.

League of Legends: Any interest in game nights?

Fortnite for Android will ditch Google Play Store for Epic’s website

Epic Games announced today that it will not distribute its massively popular game Fortnite on Android through Google’s Play Store marketplace. Instead, the company plans to directly distribute the software to players through the official Fortnite website, where Android users can download a Fortnite Installer program to install the game on compatible devices. The news confirms reports from earlier this week that Epic would bypass Google for the Android launch of the game.

There is no concrete release date yet for the Android version of Fortnite, but rumors circulating suggest the game’s release will be tied to the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Note 9 launch. Epic declined to comment on the game’s release date or any partnership plans with Samsung.

Regardless, the announcement marks a bold departure from the widespread industry practice of using mobile operating system makers like Apple and Google for app distribution. For Fortnite on iOS, Epic decided to distribute the game on the App Store, most likely because it had no other method of getting iPhone users to easily download the software. (Apple, unlike Google, does not allow iOS users to download apps that are not first approved by its internal review processes and distributed through its proprietary marketplace.) With Google and its more open platform, Epic can get away with distributing the app itself.

CEO Tim Sweeney says the primary motivation here is twofold. Epic wants to maintain its direct relationship with consumers. (The company currently distributes Fortnite on PC through its own Epic Games Launcher, instead of using Valve’s popular Steam platform.)

“Epic wants to have a direct relationship with our customers on all platforms where that’s possible,” Sweeney told The Verge over email. “The great thing about the Internet and the digital revolution is that this is possible, now that physical storefronts and middlemen distributors are no longer required.”

The second reason is financial: Epic does not want to pay Google’s 30 percent cut, especially considering the entire game is funded through in-app purchases. “The 30 percent store tax is a high cost in a world where game developers’ 70 percent must cover all the cost of developing, operating, and supporting their games,” Sweeney says. “There’s a rationale for this on console where there’s enormous investment in hardware, often sold below cost, and marketing campaigns in broad partnership with publishers.”

Scientists successfully transplant lab-grown lungs into pigs

For the first time, researchers have created lungs in the lab and successfully transplanted them into pigs.

These bioengineered lungs, described online August 1 in Science Translational Medicine, developed healthy blood vessels that allowed pigs to live for several weeks after surgery without medical complications. That’s a significant improvement from previous efforts: Lab-grown lungs implanted in rodents failed within hours, before the lungs could develop the complex blood vessel network necessary for long-term survival.

If the new procedure can be adapted for humans, with bioengineered lungs grown from a patient’s own cells, that could reduce the risk of organ rejection and slash wait times for organ transplants. In the United States, where about 1,500 people currently are on a waiting list for a lung transplant, the average wait is a few months.

“This study really brings the whole research field to the next level,” says Xi “Charlie” Ren, a biomedical engineer at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh not involved in the work.

For the study, immunologist Joan Nichols at the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston and colleagues built lungs for four pigs by first using a sugar and detergent mixture to strip the cells from lungs of donor pigs. That left sterilized, pearly white, lung-shaped scaffolds made of the intercellular proteins. (In humans, researchers envision using donated organs or 3-D printing made-to-fit lung scaffolding.) The researchers then repopulated each scaffold with blood vessel and lung tissue cells from the pig destined to receive that organ.

Each engineered lung grew for 30 days inside a bioreactor tank, pumped full of nutrient cocktails that helped cells stick to the scaffold and multiply in the right spots. The researchers then replaced the left lung of each pig with the bioengineered version.

After surgery, Nichols’ team allowed one pig to survive for 10 hours, another for two weeks, a third for a month and the fourth for two months. At each pig’s demise, the researchers did an autopsy on the animal to see how the new lungs integrated into the pigs’ bodies over time. None of the animals was given immunosuppressant drugs, and none of the transplants was rejected. Inside a pig’s body, the bioengineered lung’s blood vessels plugged into to the animal’s natural circulatory system, supplying the organ with oxygen and nutrients to survive.

The animals’ post-op recovery was “pretty amazing,” Ren says. The pig that lived two months after surgery didn’t experience any breathing problems, and its lung transplant was colonized by bacteria that inhabit normal pig lungs — signs that the tissue was developing normally and integrating well into the body.

But these lab-grown lungs aren’t quite ready for prime time, says Laura Niklason, a biomedical engineer at Yale University not involved in the work. While the bioengineered lungs linked up with the pigs’ circulatory systems, the organs weren’t connected with the animals’ pulmonary arteries — which carry low-oxygen blood for the lungs to replenish with oxygen from air breathed in. That left the pigs to rely on their natural right lungs for air after surgery.

“The next step is hooking the organ up to the pulmonary artery” to ensure that bioengineered lungs get oxygen into the blood as well as normal lungs, Niklason says.

The 2018 'Overwatch' Summer Games begin August 9th

The Overwatch Summer Games are coming back for the third year and are scheduled to begin on August 9th. True to its name, the annual Games feature summer-themed events within Overwatch, including the soccer-inspired 3v3 brawl Lúcioball. If previous Lúcioball arenas were based in Rio de Janeiro and Sydney, it looks like Blizzard is taking us to Asia this time -- to Busan, Korea, in particular. Not surprising considering the game's rising popularity in the country, where one of the first instances of Overwatch match fixing took place.

Blizzard will also release Summer Games Loot Boxes like before, which will contain new skins and other event items. We'll most likely hear more details in the coming days. For now, you have until August 10th to register for the Tespa Arcade Lúcioball tournament that'll take place on August 11th and 12th, though the event itself will run until August 30th.

Also a new D.Va skin has been reveled as well.

The Walking Dead's Story Builder lets you re-make all your tough decisions before Final Season

Telltale's The Walking Dead: The Final Season is out in just 10 days, and should pull together all those harrowing decisions you've made over the previous three seasons. But what if you're not happy with some of your choices, or want to see what the world would be like if you'd acted differently? What if you've lost your previous saves, and therefore your decisions won't carry over? Fear not, because a new tool called the Story Builder gives you a do-over—and you'll be able to import your new timeline into The Final Season when it's out. Neat.

It's a fairly simple tool: there are no clips from the game, just some artsy pans of still images with voiceover to help you with your decisions. If you've never played any of The Walking Dead, you'll be lost, but if you have played it then the pictures and description will likely jog your memory, and you'll be able to make the choice you wish you'd made at the time. It could also serve as a handy reminder if you can't remember all the way back to Season 1.

To import your choices, you'll need to login to your Telltale Games account. The Story Builder will also be available in the game, so you can wait until then if you want. I think it's a brilliant idea, and I hope other games with branching narratives copy it in future.

League Of Legends Announces New Experimental Game Modes

Experimental modes are gameplay prototypes designed to deliver a different kind of experience distinct from Summoner’s Rift, Twisted Treeline, or ARAM. They’re also different than rotating game modes like URF, Doom Bots, and One For All in a few key ways:

With experimental modes, we're looking for something that could last a while—maybe even as a permanent addition to League. They’re not tied to a particular event, and our hope for each mode is that it's compelling enough to play over and over again, and to be a regular mode-of-choice for many players. If an experimental mode doesn't meet that bar, we'll set it aside and explore other ideas.

Experimental modes are also about testing the waters and getting early community response before delving into additional months of development to get to a final version. They’re works-in-progress, so expect an alpha-style product with borrowed art that’s missing the bells and whistles—but also aggressive patching to evolve and balance the mode throughout the test.

By contrast, RGMs are short-term experiences. They’re breaks from the regular gameplay or often higher pressure experiences of permanent modes. Sometimes they’re meant to deepen your experience with events like Star Guardian (Invasion) and PROJECT (Overdrive). Most importantly, RGMs are designed to be fun for the few weeks they're active, but don't share the same primary goal of being a compelling experiences you'd keep coming back to, even if we kept them around forever.

RGMs are also polished, final products. Everything you experience in an RGM, from visuals to gameplay mechanics to music to user interfaces, has been fully developed and implemented.

We also want to note that experimental modes won’t happen super frequently—at most, you’ll see a couple in a given year. This is largely because we’re designing them from the ground up instead of customizing and modifying existing modes, and also because we aren’t going to stop maintaining those existing modes (the vast, vast majority of the League team is still focused on SR, with a much smaller group working on experimental prototypes).

BioWare boss Casey Hudson talks about Anthem

There's been quite a bit of speculation about how BioWare's Destiny 2-styled online shooter Anthem will tell a single-player story contained within a multiplayer world, particularly since epic tales of solo heroism have historically been BioWare's bread and butter. Casey Hudson's "mid-summer update" on the BioWare Blog reveals a little bit about how the studio is approaching the task through a system called "Our World, My Story."

"[Our World, My Story] is one of the most innovative things about Anthem," Hudson wrote. "In the dynamic open world, everything is experienced in real-time by all Anthem players—day/night, weather, and world-scale events that shape the ongoing narrative of the setting. This is 'our world,' which we share as a player community."

"Then when you return to Fort Tarsis, that’s actually a single-player experience, and it’s where you spend time developing relationships, making choices, and seeing consequences. That’s the 'my story' part."

Hudson acknowledged that his quickie overview doesn't actually answer many questions, but said BioWare will "really go deep" on Anthem's storytelling (and other features) in a PAX panel—presumably that's PAX West, which runs from August 31 to September 3.

For those who prefer BioWare's older hits to the new material, Hudson also confirmed that it is getting up to new things in the Dragon Age and Mass Effect settings, although it's all very preliminary at this point. "We have some teams hidden away working on some secret stuff that I think you’ll really like," he wrote. "We’re just not ready to talk about any of it for a little while."

Anthem is set to come out on February 22, 2019.

Russian Subway Dogs’ launch week sales will go toward puppy charity

Spooky Squid Games’ adorable arcade game Russian Subway Dogs scampers out onto PC today. Until August 8, the developer will donate $1 from each sale to the nonprofit Save Our Scruff, which rescues and finds new homes for stray pups.

Russian Subway Dogs is loosely based on the canny canines from the streets of Moscow, which are a beloved iconic feature of the city and have inspired literature from great writers like Anton Chekhov. The dogs have been seen taking public transportation and developed a keen sense for how to beg for food from commuters.

Spooky Squid’s take is frenetic and cheeky. Your scruffy protagonist must avoid obstacles like glowing bears while chowing down on steaks and other snacks, and you receive missions from a kitty known as The Proletaricat as you work your way through the city. The game also seems to draw on Russian and Eastern European folklore, featuring an appearance by Baba Yaga‘s chicken-legged house.
