Yes - especially when there is clear communication between the two. I have male friends that I have had close *my entire life.* I have had several gents who were good friends express interest in getting to know me more, but the feelings weren't mutual and I made that clear. Our friendships were not ruined - I pretty much made it clear why we wouldn't work and we both deserve better and should encourage that in one another.

I tend to me more rational than emotionally fueled, so I suppose this is why I manage to keep most of the male friends I make.

Now after a romantic relationship? That is a whole other story. Very few former lovers of mine are on a speaking basis with me. Some girls can really end a relationship and be "lets be friends, lol". Not so much here. I am very all-in or not-at-all. And it takes a significant set of circumstances to make that happen. So once it does, chances are I don't respect that person as a human being anymore, let alone have any remaining desire for contact. Others, its just a realization it isn't going to work and kindly wish them the best/give words of encouragement from afar.

My answer is no there is a well-known study on this and I will post the article if I have to. The female will develop feelings over time to a male rather she wants to or not it does happen even if she is married.

it's very possible but there are so many factors that can change very quickly . that usually will lead to one if not both developing feelings even at long distances bc time spent together can make those miles/Km disappear

the way i see it men and women dont have to have sex they can be great friends but sex is fun and if your good friends you may as well play with the poles and the holes.

I do think the opposite sex can be platonic friends. Due to the ingrained attraction factor built inside of us though, some things can spark feelings in one or both persons as many other persons have written here.

Life is very complex, and with it, are relationships.
